The latest round of World Trade Organization (WTO) negotiations,
known as the Doha Development Agenda (DDA), present an unparalleled
opportunity for economic growth and development for all nations
of the world. Tangible progress is possible in the rules governing
trade of both agricultural and non-agricultural sectors, along
with the reduction of damaging tariffs and government subsidy
programs. Services negotiations, important for maintaining
the momentum for global economic growth, are also in discussion
as a part of the DDA.
Only a few months remain, however, for WTO Member Governments
to save this round of negotiations. It is critical that the
governments of the world make the political commitments necessary
to achieve real progress.
Real progress in the Doha Development Agenda is among Business
Roundtable's highest priorities for 2005. For more information
on the benefits of a successful DDA, please contact the Roundtable's
International Trade and Investment Taskforce at (202) 872-1260.
