The Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA)

The Dominican Republic-Central America Free Trade Agreement (DR-CAFTA) is one of the most pressing international trade issues facing U.S. policymakers in recent memory. The passage of DR-CAFTA will create a market for U.S. goods and services in Latin America that is second in size only to Mexico. It will immediately reduce restrictions on 80% of U.S. industrial exports and more than 50% of agricultural exports to the region. DR-CAFTA is also an economic tool that can help reduce poverty, promote growth and nurture the democratic progress of the past decade in Central America. More important, the passage of DR-CAFTA will cement the United States as the leader in promoting free and liberalized trade throughout the world.

The passage of DR-CAFTA is among Business Roundtable’s highest priorities for 2005. For more information on the benefits of this agreement, please contact the Roundtable’s International Trade and Investment Taskforce at (202) 872-1260.
