Business Roundtable Issues Comprehensive Resource on the Topic of Trade

"The Language of Trade" is Designed to Increase the Understanding of
World Trade and its Importance to Economic Growth

Washington, D.C. - Business Roundtable today released a valuable new resource designed to provide clarity and up-to-date information on the often complex world of international trade. The Language of Trade is a simple-to-use reference publication with basic information on international trade agreements and trade terminology, as well as explanations of regional trade alliances and the various negotiating and administrative agencies that oversee and enforce trade policy.

The Language of Trade is being distributed to every Member of Congress and will be available at www.trade.businessroundtable.com in a searchable format for easy reference and download. The new publication is the latest in a multi-year Business Roundtable effort to promote deeper appreciation for the economic benefits of liberalized U.S. trade and investment policies.

"The United States must continue to look to international trade and investment agreements to expand markets and continue to grow our economy," said Harold McGraw III, Chairman, President and CEO, The McGraw-Hill Companies and Chairman of Business Roundtable's International Trade & Investment Task Force. "As business leaders who know firsthand the power of trade, we hope this tool will become a valued reference for Congressional staff and others as we move forward with an ambitious trade agenda in 2006."

The Language of Trade includes three sections:

  • Trade Liberalization Timeline - To help put the recent history of global trade policy in context and illustrate the enormous impact trade liberalization has had on worldwide economic growth.
  • Commonly Used Acronyms - Even the experts can get confused with the plethora of organizations and acronyms that come up in day-to-day discussion of international trade and investment policy.
  • Glossary of Terms - A handy reference guide that will help make even the most complex document or discussion understandable.
