Business Roundtable Congratulates Congressman Rob Portman on USTR Nomination

McGraw: "President Bush has nominated a proven leader
with a knack for getting the job done"

WASHINGTON, DC - Harold McGraw III, chairman, president & CEO of The McGraw-Hill Companies and chairman of Business Roundtable's International Trade and Investment Task Force, today issued the following statement congratulating Congressman Rob Portman on his nomination to serve as the United States Trade Representative:

"The CEOs of Business Roundtable congratulate Congressman Rob Portman on his nomination as United States Trade Representative. During his six terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, Congressman Portman has demonstrated a spirit of bipartisan cooperation that will be essential for working with the Congress and our international trading partners.

"The opening of global markets is essential for continued economic growth and job creation for Americans.

"2005 is a critical year for the international trade agenda. We urge swift confirmation of Congressman Portman so he can get to work on the ambitious roster of trade issues, such as DR-CAFTA, TPA Renewal, WTO, and the Doha negotiations.
